My Work

My Work

My process begins with freshly felled logs. Using traditional hand tools, I split the wood down to workable sizes. I follow the fibres of the tree to create very fine but also very strong chair components. The bent pieces on the chairs are bent using steam and very specifically selected ash and oak.
Turned components are made using a foot powered pole lathe, the same tool Windsor chair makers have been using for centuries.
I select my wood from a 900 acre managed forest, less than twenty miles from my workshop, which is based in the beautiful North Yorkshire village of Great Ouseburn.
